- These are the results of the vote to create a
- separate binaries newsgroup for the Atari
- 8-bit so far. Rather disappointing.
-
- YES votes --->34 (35 counting me)
- NO votes ---> 2
-
- So it appears we don't have the needed 100.
-
- Due to a mail 'futz' here at Nyx, I lost my
- file that kept track of who I had replied to.
- Below is a list of all the people that sent
- their votes to me by email. (There was one
- vote that was posted here.)
- If your name (email address) is not below,
- and you _did_ send it to me, then something
- happened. (Nyx probably happened). If you
- are not on the list, send your vote again.
- (some sites passed my email address with a
- typo for some reason. The correct version
- is: thester@nyx.cs.du.edu
- If you have not voted on this, please go
- ahead and send your vote to me also.
- I don't consider this over until at least
- next Friday, September 11.
-
- {I have more to say after the list --
- don't leave just yet.}

-
- If you noticed, I didn't include who voted what. (yes or no)
- I felt that with only two "NO" votes, I shouldn't put them on
- the 'spot'.
- I can at least say, this has been interesting. According to
- _ONLINE ACCESS_ magazine, there are over 3 million users world-
- wide on the InterNet. 37 of us are fans of the Atari 8-bit
- computer. (At least one of those 37 doesn't have his Atari
- equipment anymore-but remains (from what I have read here)
- active and very helpful to the rest of us. That's loyalty of
- a very special kind.
- I am continually surprised at what both the Atari computer and
- the *Atari user* can accomplish. We have kept this little
- 'magic box' kicking since its inception in 1979. It has a
- worldwide group of diehards that won't give in to the notion
- of obsolescense. Almost daily (so it seems) you can read here
- of new ideas and techniques for stretching the Atari far beyond
- the limits of what the original designers thought possible.
- So what am I getting at, you ask? Just that even though this
- little pocket of 37 (or more) Atari fans may seem miniscule,
- we are really limitless if you look at it from the standpoint
- of spirit. So what if we don't number one hundred on the net!
- We are a unique group of people the way I see it. And the
- friendliest, if the comments that came attached to the votes
- are any indication.
- Before I tread on the edge of nauseating all of you with my
- maudlin ramblings, let me quit by saying thanks for
- participating in this endeavor to improve our lot by voting
- to create a binaries group. It appears that those of you
- that, in effect said, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" were
- right. Perhaps those 'lost wares' will still show up if we
- allow posting uuencoded files here in comp.sys.atari.8bit.
- All we have to do now, is agree upon the etiquette and protocol
- needed so that the binary posts can co-exist here with as little
- friction possible.
- But - I still want to hear from any stray votes out there by
- next Friday as I said at the top. I don't think we'll hit
- the magic 100, but we can hope can't we?
