- Re: transferring files from SPARCstation to Atari 8-bit
-
- This should work:
-
- * Acquire a copy of "mtools" for the SPARCstation; this is a public-domain
- set of routines that will allow the SPARCstation to read/write MS-DOS
- 3.5" floppy disks in the SPARCstation's built-in 3.5" drive. Use this
- capability to place your Atari 8-bit files onto MS-DOS 3.5" disk.
-
- * Acquire the program "UTIL" from the Atari Archive; copy it, too, onto
- MS-DOS 3.5" disk. UTIL is a program for the PC which allows it to read/
- write true double-density AtariDOS 2.0 (e.g. MyDOS w/o subdirectories)
- disks.
-
- * Acquire a PC that has a 3.5" drive AND a 5.25" drive. These seem to be
- getting scarcer, but I have one so maybe you can find one. Put the 3.5"
- disk containing UTIL (for the PC) and the downloaded Atari files, into the
- 3.5" drive. Put a true double-density AtariDOS 2.0 formatted disk into the
- 5.25" drive (formatting a "true double-density" disk in AtariDOS 2.0 format
- is left as an exercise for the reader; I'd sweat over it, myself, but I've
- done it so I know it's possible). Use UTIL to write the Atari files from
- the 3.5" PC disk to the 5.25" Atari disk.
-
- * Use the 5.25" true double-density AtariDOS disk with any AtariDOS 2.0
- compatible, true double-density-supporting DOS, to read and use the files
- on your Atari.
-
- Caveats: UTIL is prone to misbehavior. Mtools isn't the easiest thing to
- use. UTIL only works on 360K PC drives.
