- Sorry, very few programs will actually be able to use more than the base
- 48K. The 16K difference between an 800 and an 800XL lies underneath the OS
- ROM. To get at it, you have to switch off the ROM during the VBI. The 800
- does not have the capability of turning off the OS ROM. On the 800,
- everything beyond the base 48K must be banked switched just like the extra
- 64K in the 130XE, HOWEVER the banks do not switch at the same 16K range of
- addresses as the 130XE, so even if you have the extra memory you can't run
- software designed to take advantage of the 130XE. The best known memory
- expansion for the 800 is the Axlon expansion. Some older software such as
- SynCalc, and newer software such as SpartaDOS X can use Axlon compatible
- memory on the 800.
