- Hmm...CDTV (which I have, so I'm biased a bit) and CD-I were introduced in
- the middle of a recession. They were very new products, and very interesting
- ones I might add. I can sit and play with the CDTV and switch over to a
- movie and switch back and dial up work! Now, quite a few units were
- actually sold. Lot's of titles are available and many are about to come
- out (a second generation with more colours, motion, etc...). There were few
- peripherals when it was introduced, but it can easily be turned into an
- Amiga with a floppy, keyboard, remote trackball/mouse/joysticks (these have
- been available for some time) and now an internal hard drive as well as a
- specially designed DCTV board for more colours, etc...The price is coming down
- fast. CDTV has, in my opinion, a bright future. The software is very reasonably
- priced and isn't driving me into a 5th mortgage like my SNES and Genesis
- units are. I wouldn't count it out yet.
-
- The sad thing about this is that the SNES with it CD-I CD addon (slated for
- January at around $200) is nothing compared to what should have evolved out
- of the GS. I find it amusing that the SNES with its 65816 (and coprocessors)
- makes the Genesis console look somewhat poor in comparison. And Apple threw
- it all away. A simple title like Street Fighter II has sold millions. If
- anything is a shame it's that Apple never followed up on the promise that
- the GS will never be (under Apple).
-
- At this point, Apple seems to have done poorly in the education world, is
- really under attack by OS/2 and Windows() and is not taken seriously in the
- workstation world. Odd indeed.
