- If the external disk has ever come loose or disconnected from the //c, you could
- have damaged the controller chip for your drives. I think this is the "Apple-in-a-
- chip" on the motherboard. This has happened to me once. There are a number of
- locations (see A+/Incider) who will sell you chips (if you feel technically adept,
- you can replace the chip yourself - it's soldered) or exchange a motherboard. The
- las time I checked a //c motherboard exchange runs about $99.

- Whether it occurred this way or not, it sounds like a problem on the motherboard/
- disk controller. I doubt very much it's both drives...... BTW, hope you had
- backups of those disks.....
