- My favourite is the loopback connector for my IBM laser printer video
- interface:
-
- The part consists of a DB15 connector with some wires jumpered back,
- to allow testing the interface.
-
- It only has a few wires in it and would happily withstand the weight
- of a large truck.
-
- I called up IBM service and asked them for the jumpering so that I
- could build one, but was told that they didn't know the configuration
- ansd the part was special enough that the Montreal service dept.
- didn't own one, even if they could test the jumpers.
-
- I ordered this part (a DB15 with a housing) for $45.00 plus shipping.
- The operator agreed to waive the $55.00 minimum shipping charge when
- I suggested that I visit their office to pick the thing up. It seems
- that there is a $60.00 "rush" charge for pickups.
-
- Fourty five dollars later, I got my plug by regular post (no shipping
- charge; There are some reasonable people around)
-
- The DB15 with housing was in a clear blisterpack with a tag containing
- the same info on it as the visible housing. This was in a (clear)
- plastic bag with a label (containing the same information as the
- blisterpack and the housing).
-
- The plastic bag was in a paper bag stapled to the invoice.
-
- The paper bag was wrapped in bubble-pack.
-
- The bubble-pack was in a sea of styrofoam peanuts in a shoebox sized
- cardboard carton with a plethora of labels, numbers and routing codes
- taped to it.
-
-
- ... all this for a DB15 in a housing which I could have made myself
- if they would only provide the pinouts. ...
-
- I saved the box ... :-) figured I should get my money's worth ...
