- Hi. Last night while editing a file with a PD editor, it locked up
- on writing to disk, and managed to trash something on my Hard Disk.
- Now whenever I reboot, I get a requester saying
-
- Disk validation failed
- Key 10426 already set
-
- I select retry, but nothing happens, and my disk is locked for
- writes since the validation didn't pass. I tried diskdoctor, which
- "restored" some files, but was unable to fix the validation error.
- I also spent some time spelunking through the DOS manual, and I
- have a good guess what the trouble is (one of the own keys is set
- or set wrong?) but no tools with which to fix the trouble.
-
- Oh, the machine is an A3000 running 2.01 (Kickstart 36.143,
- Workbench 36.68)
-
- I checked the FAQ (dated January) and it was no help either. So
- here's my plea: If anyone can tell just from what little info I
- have here what's wrong and how to fix it, I'd appreciate it. Also
- if anyone can point me to tools similar in flavor to the Norton
- Utilities so that I can try to hack the problem out myself, or any
- combination of the above. A description of what's done at disk
- validation time would be useful as well. I'm hoping that I'm the
- only one this has ever happened to, so if you can help, please do.
-
- I really don't want to drag all my stuff off of there, reformat the
- disk, and reload everything.
-
- Email is fine, and I read the newsgroups regularly. Thanks.
