  20. PC high density floppies spin at a fixed 300 RPM.  Most I've looked
  21. at use the same Hitachi HA13432 motor control chip. Perhaps it is the
  22. transfer speed you are referring to (not that I've actually seen
  23. anything other than the standard 250/500/1000 KBaud)?  The max data
  24. transfer speed of the Denise is 250 KBaud.  Thus, the drive spin speed
  25. must be slowed to do twice the density. This is NOT how the IBM/clones
  26. accomplish the task -- they change the transfer rate.

  28. Please tell me a program on the IBM which will read any Mac format other
  29. than the SuperDrive HD format.  With the SuperDrive in HD mode, the Mac
  30. no longer uses multiple speeds.  But for all other drives/modes, they
  31. use multiple speeds and I have yet to see anything on any other platform
  32. that can read the disks without special interfacing hardware (such as
  33. Sybil and AMAX-II+).

  35. You are right that it would be nice if the Amiga drives were standard
  36. HD drives -- but that's just not possible with the current hardware.
  37. A lot of folks have been trying to tell you these facts, but you
  38. continue to ignore them.
