- Actually, a 25mhz 68040 is in many instances faster than a 486. Low end clones
- can easily be outpaced by an '040. For systems of average or better quality, a
- 25mhz '040 will smoke a 33mhz 486. For the extra money, you get a faster bus,
- and a more efficient operating system. The only operating systems that are as
- good or better than AmigaDOS are Unix and OS/2, and both have 4 or 5 times the
- ram and disk overhead than AmigaDOS(and I'm being conservative on that point).
- The 3000's SCSI is faster than a 486's SCSI(not an '040 Amiga, but an '030
- Amiga) on average, and the Bus speed is one of the fastest in the industry.
- The only bus competitive with the 3000 is IBM's Microchannel, and that doesn't
- include PC microchannel, but RS/6000 and AS/400 microchannel, a much different
- and faster beast.
