- Don't like to spoil your party but..
-
- Just after the introduction of the Amiga 3000 I had a conversation
- in email with a guy from C= who used to post to the net occassionally
- (but has now disappeared, maybe fired?). His name was Bob Raibel
- (I know I've got his last name slightly wrong) from C= LSI design.
-
- I had mailed him to ask if the new chipset they were
- working on would work with the A3000. He told me that any new chips
- would have a different shape and pin-out and the only way to get them
- into the 3000 would be via a Zorro III slot. He wasn't even
- sure if that was possible and said I would have to ask Dave Haynie
- about it, which I never got around to doing.
-
- I wish now I had have kept the mail, though I guess it wouldn't have
- been in the spirit of Usenet to post it anyway.

-
- I hope you are right, but I still can't see a 32 bit chip fitting into
- a 16 bit chip's socket. Dave has said as much when he said "You can't
- grow 16 bits" a few months ago.
-
- Something positive...
-
- It may make some kind of sense though. Under the new systems you
- have to enquire to find out whether there is 2x or 4x speedup. Adding
- the new chips to the A3000 would only gain 2x speedup due to the
- different type of RAM chips needed for the 4x speedup. I doubt C= would
- cripple their new machines by using memory that would only give a 2x
- speedup, so this may imply you can add the new chips to the 3000, but
- just not get full utilization.
-
- Did that help to confuse things? I hope so :-)

-
- There will probably be some sort of Power-Up offer for people in the
- States, but I doubt it will be available elsewhere.
