  20. To all of you who've been fretting over the NewTek Video Toaster Workstation
  21. and how it doesn't say Amiga on the front of the box (though it still does on
  22. the back,  inside,  and in the manual -- but that's another story) -- according
  23. to Jim Plant,  the publisher of AVID,  the Amiga-Video Journal in the June '92
  24. Avid Letter (the subscriber-only supplement to AVID) it will soon be a moot
  25. point. (Geez,  long enough sentence there,  or what!)

  27. He says NewTek is getting out of the Toaster Workstation biz,  for a number of
  28. reasons -- the biggest probably to help relieve tensions between NewTek, 
  29. Commodore,  and the Amiga dealers.  He reports what has already been said on
  30. the Amiga echo already,  that Commodore told many of its dealers not to sign
  31. on as authorized Toaster Workstation dealers or else risk losing their
  32. official Commodore dealer status.  He also says,  as has been heard elsewhere, 
  33. that some dealers signed up with NewTek anyway -- but the majority didn't
  34. want to cross Commodore on this.  Jim says these dealers could still sell
  35. Toaster systems by installing Toaster cards in Amigas,  but because they
  36. weren't official NewTek Workstation dealers they didn't get many NewTek
  37. amenities,  including access to the lucrative NewTek referral network.

  39. Jim Plant says there are less than 100 Workstations in stock and when those
  40. are gone from NewTek's HQ that's the last of them.

  42. So that means the big discussion of what IBM and Mac users will or won't
  43. think about the Toaster (whether they know it runs on an Amiga or not) is
  44. soon to be old news.
