- : I remember starting up this thread of discussion about Quantums a few weeks
- : back now. I must have missed some of the discussion in between then and now -
- : is there REALLY something wrong with the new Quantum 120/240LPS drives? If
- : there is, what's the problem - I'm still waiting for my second replace drive to
- : come back...
- :
- : Despite the experiences so far, I still think Quantums are worth a
- : recommendation. I can't afford a Wren or HP drive... 8^(
-
- I bought three LPS 240 drives back in February and none of them worked with
- my A2091 controller. The tech support person said that they were aware of the
- problem and were working on a work-around and that they would give me a call
- when it was fixed. Well, it's been around seven months now and no call.
-
- So I gave their tech support line a call today and the
- problem appears to have been in their cache chip. So there going to send me
- replacement chips. Their support number is 900-746-4433 ($5.00 charge per
- call). I hope this does fix the problem. BTW, the person I talked to (Pat)
- said that the problem was on the Commodore side although I've used other
- drives on the A2091 such as an old Micropolis 139 meg full height, 40Meg
- Quantum, and a Maxtor 350Meg drive. Actually, the Maxtor is comes up to speed
- too slowly to be recognized and I have to warm boot to get it to work. :^(
