- That's right, although the naming conventions of the different modes are often
- confused. If you get hold of SetRamsey by Nic Wilson off a fish disk, it will
- report the 'standard' configuration as burst mode. This is 'page' mode (I
- think), and is set by diag at startup. It is the only one set, because this
- mode works on all A3000's. What Nic refers to as 'Static Column' mode is burst
- mode, in which ramsey utilises the scram chips. Setting this mode will give
- you a speed increase. On my machine (latest rev.) I get the fastest speed by
- setting 'static' mode on, 'burst' mode off. This gives a 10% speed increase
- over the 'standard' config. I tried this mode on an earlier machine, and it
- ran fine, but SuperDmac no longer functioned and we couldn't use his hard
- disk. Real handy. For older machines, you should be able to upgrade the chips
- to the newer versions. However, I suspect the problem is with Dmac, and not
- with Ramsey, as the machine still ran, but dmac stopped working.
- On my machine, if I run both modes on, the machine runs slower. This doesn't
- seem right.
-
- I suspect Nic got his naming from the types of ram needed to support the mode,
- and C= got the names from what the mode does.
-
- Perhaps Dave Haynie can shed some light on the Ramsey/SuperDmac problem, and
- whether SetRamsey is setting the right bits in Ramsey.
