  18. Your problem that the Tandberg has a bug in its firmware. Here's a bit
  19. of info from a previous post. A couple of months ago someone else posted
  20. a detailed account of the Tandberg bugs, but I don't have that file
  21. handy.

  28. Well, I finally tracked down Tandberg Data USA, and I have better answers
  29. about the Tandberg 3600 refurbs from RS6000's.

  31. There are two fixes for this drive. The first is to get a new "bios" for the
  32. drive. The preferred version is A07;43. Some SCSI interrogator programs may
  33. reveal this (my programs only reveal "U07:"), or if the drive is not
  34. installed, it is visible through a cutout on the right (?) side of the drive
  35. near the door.

  37. The "retension problem" is tricker. It requires an EEPROM be reprogrammed. This
  38. requires a factory service. IBM told me the RS6000 can set this option, so
  39. this might be an option if you have access to an RS6000.

  41. The bottom line: The A07;43 revision chip costs (gulp!) $60. I did not get a
  42. price on the EEPROM change.
