- You can **NOT** add a parallel port switch box to your DCTV, even though the
- manual itself suggests it. It SEVERELY degrades the quality of all
- video digitizations.
-
- I bought a box right after I bought DCTV, and saw the above effect (noise,
- scan lines mal-aligned, ugh) right away. I called DC and they said "Yep,
- you can't use a parallel port switcher with DCTV-the speeds too great and
- the extra capacitance of just an extra foot of cable will screw it up." A
- few days later I called back, and told them I was thinking about building an
- electronic port switcher that would eliminate these problems. They said
- "Great! Let us know if you do it, that would be great!" I was pleased to
- hear that they were interested, and asked for information on just what the
- signals were doing on the parallel connector, to save me a lot of reverse
- engineering. "We can't tell you that." Like I was asking for industrial
- secrets...
-
- Anyway, a parallel port switcher is definitely a mistake. It will work fine
- with sound digitizers and printers, but not DCTV.
