- In answer to your question "What is Essence for Imagine?"
-
- Essence is a software companion to Essence written by Steven Worley and
- Glenn Lewis and published, distributed by Apex Software. Hmm, how to
- explain it... OK, if you are familiar with brush maps, when you take an
- ILBM file and 'wrap' it over the surface of an object, you are halfway
- to understanding Essence. Now Imagine, instead of mapping a brush,
- that you could have a computer program actually calculate the design to be
- rendered over the surface of the object (so it's very clean and clear
- at any magnification), and further that it could be defined in 3D, kind of li
- like a 'bump map', then you have Essence. It is sparing of memory
- and can create images like stone, marble, dots, fractals, etc. over the
- object's surface.
-
- To use Essence you install it with textures and other directories full
- of normal Imagine goodies. Then, you create your object, load in the
- Essence textures, render it with the defaults, or twiddle the parameters.
- It's pretty easy and some of the textures are really gorgeous.
-
- You can get more information from Apex by calling (415) 322-7532. I've
- used a gamma version and really liked it. I'm sure the final release
- is even better. It sells for $79.95.
