- My word. Everywhere I look, everyone wants either Wolfenstein 3D or
- Ultima Underworld. I guess "the grass is always greener..."
-
- Anyway I have played both games and have determined a method of getting
- Ultima Underworld results out of... let's say Black Crypt.
-
- First, load Black Crypt as you normally would. Now turn the contrast of the
- monitor down until you can barely see the wall adjacent to your party.
- You'll have to squint really rd to make out any detail in the dungeon.
- If your eyes begin to bleed after 15 minutes of playtime, you have the
- contrast adjusted correctly.
-
- Ah, yes; I can hear the masses roaring, "It's not VGA." Now I know you
- can't have VGA, but you can have the same effect. Simply cover the face
- of the monitor with a layer of wax paper. Use masking tape (we don't want
- to leave any residue) to fasten the wax paper securely in each of the
- monitor's four corners. With the fix, the text should barely be legible.
- If you can still read the text fluidly, attach a second layer of wax paper.
-
- "With my Amiga, I hafta reboot after playing a game." Here is where the
- two systems differ only slightly. Indeed, you must reboot your Amiga
- after playing many games; however, you must reboot your IBM prior to playing
- a game. You'll need a different AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS to allocate
- your resources properly for each game you wish to play. This is where I
- fail you in my attempt to offer a procedure similar to Ultima Underworld.
- There are no set of instruction for you to follow which can offer the same
- amount of frustration as perparing you IBM memory for use.
-
- In all honesty... Ultima Underworld was the first IBM game to turn my head.
- Since my interest in games supersedes that of computers, my Amiga had reason
- to get a little nervous. I satisfied my craving for Ultima Underworld;
- I played it for 15 minutes. I'll never play an IBM game again. I promise.
