- Yes, re-reading my message, it did seem that way (I would have thought so
- too). Truth is, I bought The Lurking Horror a LONG time ago but didn't really get
- into it...at the time, I made a backup copy, and since then I've sold most of my
- software, boxes, instructions, and all to make some money for a new computer.
- However, I did keep the backups so I could have some blank disks for my new system
- (okay, so it was a PC--but I've learned my lesson).
- I didn't use all the backups, though, and bla bla bla...
- basically my situation is that I have a few backups of old games (Archon and
- Arctic Fox are among them), but no boxes or manuals; I don't know whether the law
- dictates that I erase them or not, now that I've sold the originals, but in the
- beginning they were only for backup purposes because my A1000 was eating many of
- my games, causing read/write errors, etc.
- Now, I go to MIT, and so The Lurking
- Horror holds an extra interest for me (the game's setting is a place that's
- suspiciously similar to MIT). I started playing again, and really got into it
- before I realized that I no longer had the manual or packaging or anything. It
- probably would have been better if I HAD erased the backups, because it's very
- frustrating to really want to win a game and not be able to because of some
- password protection. I do realize that piracy is a big problem, jacks up game
- prices, etc, and that document protection is probably a good idea...but it still
- is a pain. IBM software is, for the most part, less expensive than Amiga
- software, and some PC versions of games are--yes--higher quality than their Amiga
- counterparts, and yet the majority of PC games can be installed on hard disk very
- simply and don't have massive disk or document protection (of course there are
- exceptions).
- Anyway, I'm not knocking the system, I realize that SOMEthing has
- to be done about this problem, and I still love my A3000. But I would appreciate
- this bit of help from some of my fellow Amiga users; I understand that the game
- isn't even being sold anymore, except in the Lost Treasures of Infocom, so again:
- if someone could help me out with the password thing I'd really appreciate it.
- I don't want to feel like I'm shut out because of my situation.
-
- Thanks again,
-
