- PD code is still Copywritten. Copywritten code is protected for the basic
- principle of someone else cannot sell it. People that produce PD code are a
- good asset to the Amiga community, they share there knowledge openly with
- others, this code is STILL copywritten, this is the what copyright office says
- is protected:
-
- The owner of the copyright has the EXCLUSIVE right to do and to authorize
- others to do the following:
-
-
- o To reproduce the copyrighted work in copies or phonorecords.
-
- o To prepare derivitive works based upon the copywritten material.
-
- o To distribute copies or phonorecords by public sale or other transfer of
- ownership, or by rental, lease, or lending.
-
- o To display the copyrighted work publicly.
-
- As you can see, the author still remains full owner of said material. PD code
- doesnt mean "Here you go, just #include it in and sell it." that is immoral.
- Some CNet owners have sent me mail claiming I am trying to dis-credit CNet,
- and thats not the case. I have taken personal attacks from Ken and his
- buddy's which is fine, I expected that. But just because someone takes the
- time to write code themselves doesnt mean we cant use it as a feature. Hell,
- my partner has been working on our own AUX: for almost a month, thats all he
- does is work on that. Now I dont think its fair that we cannot use that
- againest Ken. Its OUR OWN CODE, Ken does not write a lot of his code, which
- is unethical, immoral, and could be illegal. Just to set things straight
- before I get flamed by the Cnet clan. We are using our strong points as
- features for our BBS, it does resemble the CNet structure (if you want to
- compare it to CNet as if it was original?), but its a much better written
- program. If you want to stand behind Ken fine, but dont try to suppress
- others by saying "Only the authors of the program should care, so just drop
- the code stealing bit". That dis-credits Amiga owners, there are a lot of
- pirates out there, but I still believe there are people that support the Amiga
- ethically and legally.
