  22. Sorry, you're the stupid one...  it's bps, not baud, and 16800 still gives
  23. a slow backtalk channel thought it's now at 600 bps or so.

  25. So, take this:  V32bis gives you transfer speed in both directions
  26. simultaneously and 14,400 bps, while the 16.8 HST only gives you
  27. (16,800+600)/2 = 8700 in FULL duplex terminology.

  29. When the bidirectional protocols gain even more space, TrapDoor should be
  30. doing Janus in 1.82, we get ~1600 cps in both directions, which will give
  31. ~3200 cps on those transfers.

  33. With 16.8 HST, you're really going fast here:  ~1800 cps in one direction,
  34. but the other direction only goes ~60 bps, so where's the gain?  We'll go
  35. ~3200 and you'll go ~18600.  GREAT!

  37. Besides:  be my guest, buy a 16.8DS -- it has V32bis, so we'll connect
  38. 14,400 full duplex to it, but to other USR Courier modems, you'll get HST
  39. yourself...  YIKES!

  41. So, stupid, get it:  HST is the past!  Even USR is going for V.fast 28,800
  42. and letting HST die now!!!
