- Having owned several high speed modems of the HST and V.32bis variety (all
- with V.42bis which matters ZIP on archives [ok, ok, bad pun!]) I feel safe
- to state an opinion on this subject. A 14.4k HST, with or without V.42bis,
- will yield a higher transfer rate than a V.32bis modem in unidirectional
- transfers - given you are transferring precompressed data. The HST is less
- sensitive to line noise an always gives me a good 100 CPS faster transfer
- rate. This is in line with most sysops forcing an HST connection between
- two Dual Standards rather than running with a V.32bis connection. And just
- when you thought HST was dead, USR gives us 16.8k which yields an average of
- 2000 CPS (or better.)
