- Hi Dan, we meet again. I have moaned about the lack of decent Amiga music
- notation in this group at great length, and in email to yourself. I went
- to extraordinary lengths a couple of years ago to try to help to create
- something, but my programming friend was unable to continue due to other
- commitments. There was a surprising lack of interest in the Amiga
- community on the Net, which may explain something in itself.

- That's what I've been using lately. It's far more flexible than Copyist
- and as you say, it's not for the casual user. It is also free of charge to
- anyone who can obtain Georg Hessman's PasTex, which will supply the basics
- for TeX on the Amiga. MusicTeX is just another set of macros to add to an
- existing TeX implementation. Having cut my teeth on PasTeX, and having
- gone on to purchase Tom Rockiki's commercial AmigaTeX, I give both authors
- full marks for their contributions to quality software for the Amiga. As
- well as to Daniel Taupin, who has done so much to make MusicTeX a viable
- option for any user of any computer.
-
- However, I am very disheartened to see that two friends who have purchased
- Ataris within the last few months with no prior computer experience are now
- getting higher levels of productivity than I am, and I now consider myself
- to be an experienced computer user.
-
- My friends with Finale for the Mac or Windows, or Atari's Notator, are so
- far ahead in terms of time-invested per note and flexibility that it breaks
- my heart to think about it. I'm talking about computer users who come to
- me to ask how to delete a file or read text, but who are writing
- professional film scores and symphonies which are performed by professional
- orchestras in New Zealand and North America!
-
- If anyone thinks that they can write a decent notation program for us, I
- will be happy to email all research I've done so far on the subject.
