- Yesterday, I FTPt the viruschecker BootX from some site and tested it at home.
- I found quite a few bugs in the program which are a real pain in the neck.
-
- 1.) When I try to install BootX it all seems to work fine, until it asks me for
- volume Locale ,which I don't have, and stops installing. When I had a look at my
- Work:Utilities partition I saw the mess, BootX spread lots of files around there.
- I wonder why it didn't ask me where I wanted it installed.
-
- 2.) When I started up the program from the directory in which I dearchived it,
- using the Shell and typing bootx, it started the program, but it was unusable,
- because there was no visible mouse pointer. It is not very useful to guess where
- you are clicking around, so I quit.
-
- 3.) When I started BootX from Workbench it seemed to work ok, but as soon as I
- was checking my Work: partition on the HD, I ran into the next problem.
- It gave me an error nuber (8000000B) and gave me the option to reboot or suspend.
- After I rebooted I found the Task in the alert window, 074CCE18.
- I tried the program again and watched closely what it was doing.
- It got caught up in a set of hard links which I set up between some directorys.
-
- In work:gcc/arthur is a hard link called arthur to work:dice/arthur, in which is
- a hard link to work:gcc/arthur.
-
- What happended was that BootX went into an infinite loop and eventually crashed
- the machine.
-
- I hope the hard link problem will be fixed soon, because i like the program and
- would like to be able to use it now and then.
-
- I guess the problem with the Locale volume will be fixed as soon as WB2.1 is
- available. :)
