- Frank, I think the idea of a directory of UnixPC users is not good,
- nor is a directory of sources. The best thing to have is what we
- have now, a communications pipeline with an interested community and
- a busy history.
-
- A very few volunteers can maintain the underlying knowledge of sources,
- the FAQ, and even the sources themselves. As long as Andy Fyfe, Frank
- Higgins, Dave Brierley, Thad, DoN, and a few others are interested in
- posting intelligent stuff, (and as long as anyone's ego is bolstered
- by the group's gratitude for it), the newsgroup will prosper.
- When people feel that nothing worthy is being contributed, the
- newsgroup will die. And the 3b1/7300 with it.
-
- Since the 3b1/7300 is such a good system for hobbyists and students,
- it hardly seems likely that its lifeline, this newsgroup, will wither
- soon. Perhaps, when vastly superior systems start becoming surplus in
- similar numbers. Perhaps when 386bsd matures, and really fast [34]86
- systems get below $1K, people's interest will move.
-
- I personally hate little-endian systems, and Intel particularly, so
- I guess I'll have to wait for cheap Sparc and 68040 systems to come
- along, before I'll abandon my 3 3b1s. But I wouldn't keep them at
- all if it weren't for the newsgroup.
