- Mine works fine on a rubberized mouse pad (as long as it is on a
- flat, rigid, surface. It doesn't have to be too level. If the surface
- curves, there are problems with contact of mouseball to surface.

- I used one for a while on a pebbled surface of a printer stand, but
- it abraded away the glide pads and made offensive grating noises.

- If you are having trouble, try removing the ball, washing it, drying
- it with a lint-free cloth (no Kleenex or equivalent), and re-installing. If
- you have some form of aero-duster, try that in the cavity while the bottom
- is open. The actual sensors are optical choppers driven by wheels that
- contact the mouse ball. The choppers are hiden within the mouse case, and
- you can only see the wheels when the bottom is open.

- Also, you might be having some contact problems with the mouse
- connector (though I doubt this). Try un-plugging and re-plugging it a few
- times to clean any oxide off the pins.

- Probably a glass or Plexiglas pad would work fairly well. Beware of
- lint build-up, since that gets carried in and reduces the friction between
- the wheels and the ball.
