- Recently, I surveyed a couple of papers on user interface management
- systems, design etc. Most of the work has addressed some of the problems
- specified above independently. For example, M. Green's paper " A survey
- of three dialogue models", ACM Trans. on graphics, Jul 86, describes
- transition nets, context free grammers and events specification methods
- for specifying the user computer interaction. Most of the research is
- done for specifying a graphical system to generate the interface
- programs automatically, rather than as a requirement documentation of
- the system. For describing the behavior of user interface, the method
- given in the paper "The UAN: A USer-Oriented Representation for Direct
- Manipulation Interface Designs", by H. R. Hartson in ACM Trans. on Inf.
- Syst., Jul 1990, is quite good, though it suffers from some
- disadvantages. Some of the papers that can be of interest to you are,

- 1. A. Harbert et.al., A Graphical Specification System for
- User-Interface Design, Jul, 1990, IEEE Software.
- 2. R. J. K. Jacob, A Specification Language for Direct-Manipulation User
- Interfaces, ACM Trans. of Graphics, Vol. 5, No. 4, Oct 1986.
- 3. B. A. Myers, et. al., Garnet: Comprehensive Support for Graphical,
- Highly Interactive User Interfaces, Nov 1990, IEEE Computer.
