  24. Theme: Software Metrics Theory Meets Practice
  25.  
  26. The area of software metrics is concerned with measurement and prediction in 
  27. software engineering.  Software measures assess attributes of interest
  28. such as quality, complexity and cost in software products and processes.
  29. Prediction systems estimate attributes such as effort and reliability.
  30. These measurement and prediction systems are needed both during development 
  31. of software and for use in experimental software engineering.
  32.  
  33. To date we have many such measures and prediction systems.  We also have 
  34. guidelines for their development.  This includes work on measurement theoretic 
  35. and axiomatic foundations and on processes for model building and metric 
  36. development.
  37.  
  38. Ultimately the success of software models and metrics is determined by 
  39. successful  use in actual software development environments or experimentation.
  40. To build a synergistic discipline, we need to bring together these theoretical,
  41. empirical and practical aspects.
  42. Thus this workshop is interested in cross fertilization of results in the 
  43. following areas:
  44.  
  45.      measurement theory 
  46.      model building and reuse
  47.      metrics formally developed from empirical studies
  48.      experience with the use of processes for metrics and model building
  49.      empirical validation of software metrics
  50.          (especially those that were axiomatically derived)
  51.      results based on practical use of software metrics and models
  52.      principles of experimental software engineering 
  53.          (design of experiments, representation and use of results)

  56. We invite papers (up to 12 single spaced pages) on any of the above topics,
  57. but are especially interested in papers  which address two or more areas.  
  58. Five copies of the paper should be submitted to one of the program co-chairs.
