- I have extensive experience using both pSOS and VxWorks, however not on the
- same archetectures. I have used pSOS on Intel X86 based systems, and VxWorks
- on Moto 680X0 systems.
-
- For me, there is no comparison. VxWorks is way better, if your target has
- enough resources (speed and memory mainly) to make its use feasible. The
- development environment for VxWorks is very familiar to Unix developers,
- whereas pSOS seems to have an MS-DOS based development heritage.
-
- Networking works really well, both over Ethernets, serial links and back planes.
-
- But the think I like best of all about VxWorks is the shell! This is so useful
- for testing and debugging that you will wonder how you ever got along
- without it. It puts pROBE (the pSOS debugger) to shame.
-
- As far as tech support, Wind River is a pretty busy place. It can take a few
- days sometimes to get a question answered. When they do get back to you, they
- are pretty thorough. The pSOS folks, Software Components Group, were also
- helpful, but I really haven't had that many questions for them.
-
- That's my two cents.
