- In the dim, gray past, I designed a couple of NTDS interfaces.
- I even still have the spec: MIL-STD-1397(SHIPS) 1973
-
- NTDS was (is?) basically a parallel data channel for military computers.
- Although a serial version was defined, I never saw one.
-
- NTDS channels are very similar to the "Word Channels" on older UNIVAC machines.
- I don't know if UNIVAC drove NTDS specs or vice versa.
-
- Basically the interface was full duplex with several data lines and a
- data ready control. The receiver would accept the data and toggle a
- data accepted control line.
-
- There were also several variants for the electrical interface
- (NTDS-slow -15V, NTDS-fast -3V, NTDS-anew +3.5V).
-
- Hope this helps,
