  10. We have struggled with our Mac equipment and our Novell network
  11. for weeks trying to get everything to work together properly.
  12. We are running Novell Netware 3.11 and Mac Netware 3.01 on a
  13. Zenith 386/33 file server, with 10BaseT wiring.  We are mostly an IBM
  14. compatible-based installation, but we have a few clients who
  15. need Macintosh services on the network.  We have a combination
  16. of Shiva and Asante network cards for our Mac II, IIsi's, and
  17. SE/30s.  We are using the latest software version for these
  18. cards, and the Asante software drives both cards equally well.
  19. We have queues set up on the Novell server using ATPS print
  20. server drivers.

  22. The problems we have are:

  24. o    How do we get Macintosh printers to be recognized on the
  25. network?  We have a LaserWriter IIg that may connect directly to
  26. Ethernet, and two LaserWriters connected to Macs.  Is there some
  27. hardware/software that lets the Network know that a printer is
  28. here, associated with a print queue, and available to other Macs
  29. via the Chooser?  It is not easily possible to run LocalTalk connections
  30. from the File Server to all of the Macintosh equipment, and seems silly
  31. since the Ethernet is already in place.
  32. o    All of our Macs are running System 7.0 or higher.  We
  33. have had a problem with "time-outs" when connecting a Mac to our
  34. file server.  After a login is established on the network, the
  35. Macintosh will become very sluggish, allowing the user about 5
  36. seconds to use the arrow cursor to work, and then timing out
  37. with the watch cursor for about 35 seconds, and repeating the
  38. cycle until you log out of the network.  It does not happen with
  39. a bare-bones System 7 install, followed by a reboot with
  40. extensions off, followed by installing the card drivers.  Any
  41. hints as to what causes this?
  42. o    Any info about setting up multiple queues for multiple zones?

  44. Any help would be worth dinner, wherever and whenever,
  45. vegetarian or no (if geographically possible).
