- You were mis-informed. The RS-6000 boasts a rather complete set of terminfo
- files which will drive most terminals commonly used with UNIX hosts, including
- DEC's VT series.

-
- Either a network (most commonly TCP/IP) connection or RS-232 serial connection,
- your favorite terminal emulator (NCSA telnet, PacerTerm, White Knight, etc).
- If you are going to connect to the RS-6000 over a network, you will need a
- network card for your Mac, or some gateway from LocalTalk to TCP/IP such as
- a FastPath or GatorBox.
-
- >How is the emulation called ?
-
- Double-click on your favorite terminal emulator program, set up its connection
- parameters, and log in.
-
- >What is special to know abput ?
-
- A general understanding of RS-232 or ethernet is helpful, but not essential.
-
- >Which product offers a reliable communication ?
-
- Most products do, but it really depends on your environment and what you want
- out of the package.
- Reliable communication is more a function of your connection and environment
- than anything else. Long RS-232 cables wrapped around big electric motors,
- fluorescent light fixtures, and high-voltage mains will result in a noisy
- connection, while well-routed RS-232 cables will yield a nice, quiet, reliable
- connection. Of course, network-based connections are error-free, but tend to
- break, especially if your Mac happens to crash while a session is open.
