- We are planning to purchase a DEC VaxStation 4000 Model 90 with
- two RZ25 drives. The original idea was to have a TZ30 tape drive to be
- able to read various distributions from third party software vendors.
- Recently I saw an ad in Digital Review for a tape unit called ACCELERTAPE
- from Enterprise Digital. They claim that this unit is actually a TZ85
- which will transfer at 800kb/sec and store 2.6GB per tape (with the ability
- to stack seven cartridges). This device would be perfect for us since it
- has the ability to read TK50 tapes but can also serve as a backup device.
- Therefore we could buy this tape unit and forget about purchasing the TZ30.
- My only concern is that the price is so much lower than DEC's price.
- So much lower that I'm wondering if it's too good to be true. Does anybody
- have any experiences with ACCELERTAPE from Enterprise Digital or even any
- experience with a TZ85 from DEC. Any information you could share would be
- most helpful.
- Also, are there any good affordable (<$3000) 4 or 8 mm tape backups
- units available that we could use with this VaxStation 4000 if we don't go
- with the ACCELERTAPE.
- Thanks for your assistance.
