  13. This is probably a FAQ, but...

  15. We are trying to decide what strategy to choose in terms of making CD
  16. ROM4s available to our users over the network. Since this will be small
  17. scale usage (at least for now) I would like to avoid investing in an
  18. Infoserver at this point. We would like to be able to read VAX/VMS CDs
  19. as well as CDs aimed at the PC market in the same unit.

  21. Questions for you CD wizards:

  23. - As far as I can understand we are dealing with (at least) two different
  24.   "standards" in terms of how the CD is read. Are they incompatible or can
  25.   I use the same reader for any standard as long as the physical format is OK?
  26. - Someone told me that HP (?) is selling a CDrom player that is able to sense
  27.   what kind of CD you plug in and adjust to the specific type of disc.
  28.   Any info available on this? 
  29. - If I buy one or two RRD42, connect them to one of our VAXen
  30.   can I then mount a "DOS formatted" CD in this drive and connect to
  31.   it and use it as a file service from PathWorks?
  32. - Or the other way around, if I install a standard PC-type CD player in
  33.   a PC, can I then use it from the network (PW 4.1) as if it were a local
  34.   hard disk or printer mounted for remote access? Would I even be able to read
  35.   VAX/VMS CD ROMs from there?
