  9. We are in the midst of replacing a microVAX II with a VAXstation 4000-60.
  10. That's a real win in general, but tape performance isn't.
  11.  
  12. The microVAX has a TK-50, and on a straight backup of sys$help gets 18.5 
  13. disk blocks/second to tape.  The VAXstation has a TZ30 and only gets 4.1 disk 
  14. blocks/second to tape.

  16. It was suggested to me to run BACKUP as a user with greatly increased quotas
  17. and working set, and use BACKUP/BLOCK_SIZE=32256 This gave only a marginal
  18. performance improvement.

  20. Other differences: microVAX has RA81, VMS 5.3-1. VAXStation has RZ58, VMS 5.5
  21.  
  22. Has anyone else measured the performance of a TZ30? Has anyone got better
  23. performance? With the present perormance an image backup will become more than 
  24. a week's work!
