- We are in the midst of replacing a microVAX II with a VAXstation 4000-60.
- That's a real win in general, but tape performance isn't.
-
- The microVAX has a TK-50, and on a straight backup of sys$help gets 18.5
- disk blocks/second to tape. The VAXstation has a TZ30 and only gets 4.1 disk
- blocks/second to tape.
-
- It was suggested to me to run BACKUP as a user with greatly increased quotas
- and working set, and use BACKUP/BLOCK_SIZE=32256 This gave only a marginal
- performance improvement.
-
- Other differences: microVAX has RA81, VMS 5.3-1. VAXStation has RZ58, VMS 5.5
-
- Has anyone else measured the performance of a TZ30? Has anyone got better
- performance? With the present perormance an image backup will become more than
- a week's work!
-
- Thanks for any suggestions,
-
