  25.                               RESEARCH POSITIONS

  27. 7 Principal, Senior or Research Scientists;   2 Research Associates

  30. The Cooperative Research Centre for Distributed Systems Technology has been
  31. established under an Australian Government programme with initial
  32. Government and industry funding of $54 million over 7 years.  It will
  33. develop technologies that will form infrastructure for global distributed
  34. information systems and services.

  37. Research Program:
  38.  
  39. Research, in distributed architectures, databases, software tools and 
  40. management, security, and performance (MSP) will develop new technologies
  41. in the form of prototypes and demonstrators for commercialisation.
  42.  
  43. Architectures    Infrastructure to provide services to clients across
  44.         heterogeneous networks of disparate computers, working
  45.         with ODP, DCE, OMG and other emerging technologies.
  46.  
  47. Databases    Uniform access to heterogeneous databases and applications
  48.         across a network, involving integration architectures and
  49.         methodologies, and distributed transaction processing.
  50.  
  51. Software Tools    The creation of distributed software and collaboration
  52.         amongst distributed teams of software developers.
  53.  
  54. MSP        Tools for managing complex distributed systems, and in
  55.         particular security and performance, involving DME,
  56.         OSI management and security, and teletraffic.

  59. Research Positions:
  60.  
  61. The CRC is seeking 7 people at the Principal, Senior and Research 
  62. Scientist levels.  Applicants should have a PhD in a relevant area and 
  63. applicants for senior positions should show evidence of effective 
  64. research leadership.  Development or industrial experience is 
  65. advantageous.
  66.  
  67. In addition, the CRC is seeking 2 people at the Research Associate level 
  68. to contribute to, and support, research in the areas mentioned above.  
  69. Applicants should have an Honours or higher degree in computer science 
  70. or mathematics, or equivalent experience in a relevant area.

  75. The positions are located at the 4 universities in South East Queensland 
  76. participating in the CRC.  Appointments will be for a initial period of 
  77. 3 years.  Salaries will be at least commensurate with equivalent 
  78. positions offered by universities and public research organisations.  For
