- The "web2c" system which is used in the "Unix TeX" distribution to
- compile Web -> Pascal -> C ports to OS9 relatively easily. The only
- problem I had was that Microware "cc" has bugs, yet "gcc" seems to
- choke on some of the larger files (compiling for 68000). I've managed
- to compile the entire TeX suite (TeX 3.14, BibTeX 0.99c, MetaFont 2.7,
- Beebe 2.10 printer drivers, plus utilities), built several of the
- macro packages (LaTeX 2.09, and soon AmsTeX 2.1 and TeXInfo), and it
- all works quite well. The biggest drawback is that 2 meg of RAM
- is just barely enough to run "small" TeX.
- For those interested in tackling the port personally, the Unix TeX
- distribution is available from "byron.u.washington.edu" via anonymous
- ftp, and probably several other sites worldwide. The Beebe drivers
- are available from ymir.claremont.edu, among other places. In another
- month or two, once the system I'm working with has stabilized some
- (I'm still re-arranging and messing with the defaults), I'll upload
- the core system to hermit (the executables and some instructions on
- building the complete system from widely-available and
- system-independent macro files available from many places).
