  15. Something odd and irritating happened to my OS/2 desktop.
  16.  
  17. When I restart my computer, it boots etc. I get a startup.cmd window.
  18. The desktop flashes grey as usual, then returns to the desktop color.
  19.  
  20. So far so good.

  22. Now the system does one of two things:
  23. 1. finishes the startup, and puts all my icons and stuff on screen
  24. 2. sits there and does nothing. No icons etc. Moving the startup.cmd
  25. window or ctrl-esc hangs PM until a "Desktop not responding" window comes up,
  26. and I can kill it.

  28. So where does my desktop go? Bad day? Doesn't feel like coming out to play?

  30. Fortunately, I have the startup.cmd window up, and I'm getting used to  typeing
  31. "kill 5" to kill the desktop, and recycle it. It then comes out to play :^)

  33. (If I didn't have a startup.cmd window, and kill, I'd be more than irritated!
  34. at least now I can recover)

  36. -I always shutdown properly, even "refresh" before shutting down. No help
  37. -I rebooted from the install disks etc. and tried chkdsk /f:3 and
  38. that didn't find any weirdness

  40. Any helpful suggestions?
