- If you plan on using mostly DOS/Windows apps, it might be "acceptable", but
- not excellent. Lots of swapping activity involved, especially when running
- more than one Windows application at once. It will work, but you won't be
- amazed. Your swapper.dat will frequently increase beyond 6Mb, which
- means some decent disk trashing.
-
- I had the same setup when I first started using OS/2.
-
- I got a good deal on SIMMs, so I added 8Mb to my system (now 16Mb) and to
- me, the performance increase (8->16) was every bit as signicant as the a
- 4Mb to 8Mb increase. At 16Mb, I notice very little disk swapping, and my
- swapper.dat usually stays at 1Mb (which is the minimum).
-
- Some people will undoubtly say that I exagerate, and there will certainly
- be one or two wise guys who say that they are running OS/2 on a 4Mb 386Sx
- with 60Mb Hd and that it beats the shit out of DOS, but in my case, 8Mb
- just did not cut it. If I were to go back to 8Mb, I would choose
- DOS+Windows over OS/2.
