- Hi netters,
-
- Well its my turn this time. My brother recently bought OS/2 and tried
- loading it on his '486 machine. He was able to load OS2 and get it
- running, however, as he was loading it, he noticed that the average
- time it took to unload the software from the 3 1/2" disks was 30 min.
- It literally took all night just to load the OS!
-
-
- Also, now when he tries to boot OS/2, it takes about 10 minutes!
-
- The hardware consists of a 33Mhz, '486 clone with AMI bios, 8 megs ram
- and a 28 msec 71 MB MFM hard disk. ( I know the HD is way too small
- but he wanted to buy OS/2 while the price was right, he plans to
- upgrade the HD in the future.)
-
- My question is what could be causing this slow down? Could the hard
- disk be the reason for the incredible slowness of the system?
-
- BTW, I've got a clone 33Mhz, '386, AMI bios with (only) 4Megs, 16msec
- 120MB IDE hard disk and only takes about 1 1/2 minutes per disk to
- load and 1:40 to boot to os2.
