- The WLO Windows applets are available via anonymous ftp from
- ftp-os2.nmsu.edu. I do not recommend them. Instead, I recommend you
- simply lift the applets off the Windows 3.0 diskettes, EXPAND them,
- and use those under Win-OS/2.

- Both GCC/2 and EMX/GCC are available via anonymous ftp from

- Have a look at TE/2 and PMComm, both shareware, and both available via
- anonymous ftp from ftp-os2.nmsu.edu. When you get TE/2 be sure you
- get the latest CommPak along with it.

-
- At no charge? Well, you have the small spreadsheet applet that comes
- with OS/2 2.0. There is also a port of a small Unix spreadsheet
- application which is available via anonymous ftp from
- ftp-os2.nmsu.edu. There are shareware DOS spreadsheet which you are
- certainly permitted to use -- DOS is no stigma under OS/2 2.0.
- Examples: As-Easy-As, PC-Calc.
-
- Otherwise you can choose among Lotus 1-2-3/G (the one I use),
- Microsoft Excel for OS/2, Microsoft Multiplan for OS/2, PFS:Works for
- OS/2, N-Joy, Wingz, and, reportedly, CA-SuperCalc in a few months.

- So far no S3 drivers -- real soon now, they keep saying.

- >set up a peer to peer?
-
- The "nicest" way is to get an OS/2 TCP/IP package. IBM's is nice,
- since, with the NFS option, you can share disks in both directions,
- although other vendors offer packages. With educational discount
- you'll end up paying IBM about $200 per copy for base plus NFS, which
- isn't awful but it is, admittedly, a lot of money if you're on a
- student budget. (Although I did meet a few wealthy students when I
- was an undergraduate. :-)) What you get is pretty darn good, though,
- with just about everything you could want.
-
- DOS peer-to-peer network packages work OK in specific DOS sessions,
- but, naturally, you get a DOS network, meaning that you get pretty
- much everything you got with DOS but not much more.
-
- Someone has got to be working on a public domain or shareware TCP/IP
- for OS/2. Anyone know any details?
-
- There are some other possibilities that do not even involve ethernet
- cards. For example, OS2You, available via anonymous ftp from
- ftp-os2.nmsu.edu, will let you run programs and transfer files across
- a network (one you've already set up, like LAN Server) or across a
- serial line (for the budget minded).
