- RU> Why not buy OS/2 1.x, uprade to OS/2 2.0, use the "blank" disks
- RU>and qualify for the free upgrade to OS/2 2.1, 3.0, etc. Now, how
- RU>many sdisks do you get for your $20? Besides, the next version may

- RU>have some revenue to further their development,
-
- Given that industry analysts estimate that it costs IBM between $20
- and $25 to package up that copy of OS/2, and that IBM pays Microsoft
- another $15 to $25 in royalties to cover it, I rather doubt that
- your $20 (which, as I remember, went to somebody at a flea market
- and not IBM) is going to fund a whole lot of development.
-
- RU> (b) the apparent installed base will be larger
-
- This is true.
-
- RU>and (the best reason - c) IT WILL THOUGHROUGHLY PISS OFF MICROSLOTH
-
- Why should making money annoy Microsoft? Especially if it causes an
- extra expense to IBM in the process? Umm, listen, if this sort of thing
- appeals to you, I will certify that you can completely, thoroughly
- piss *me* off by sending me a check for $25. No? Tell you what, I'll
- be righteously annoyed for $15. Hey, wait, come back...
