- Help!!! Let me give a little history here. My pc is a 386/33 w/64k cache.
- I recently (three weeks ago) upgraded from 4 meg to 16 meg and the system ran
- w/o traps... That is, until yesterday. I downloaded EMX and compiled the
- program sieve.c (sieve of Eristothones sp). I ran it with some small values
- of 100, 1000, and 10000 but then decieded to push the limits of my machine.
- I ran it with 100000000 and watched as the memory decreased and swapping
- increased. The computer ran out of disk space and presented the option of
- either terminating the program or returning an error message to it. I
- chose to terminate and that is when the trouble began. I began to get many
- trap 000e's and, no dos program would run. Whenever I attempt to run any
- dos program I am given a dialog box that says the following
-
- Cannot start
- c:\qmodem\qmodem.exe
-
- Make sure theeh file is an OS/2 or DOS
- program. There might not be enough
- memory available to run the program.
- Do you wish to modify the settings for
- Qmodem?
-
- Needless to say, this is a problem because I still run lots of M$DO$ programs.
- This even happens when I try to open a dos window of full screen. Finally,
- after many shutdown and rebooting attempts along with a complete chkdsk of C:,
- I reinstalled OS/2.
- I know, that was a bit drastic but when all else fails, restarting from
- scratch often works. Anyway, I still cannot run any dos programs and I am
- still getting the trap 000e's. I know that usually means bad memory but why
- did it only start happening now? As far as patches go, I was running under
- the new kernel (6.477 or something) and now am running under the old one.
-
- I hope someone out there in netland can help me to unravell this mystery!!!

- Oh yeah, in good news, I was also about 3/4 of the way through printing a
- 200 page doc when I got one of the trap 000e's. When I restarted, the printer
- picked up exactly where it had left off!!! Cool stuff, Thanks OS/2
