- Hercules support would be great for me--it has always been "just one more thing"
- that has kept me from switching to OS/2 (though, by far, it is not the
- biggest thing).
-
- What riles me about the so called "driver" support is the fact that OS/2 2.0
- has been out for so long, but I can STILL count the second/third party
- video drivers on my FINGERS! This is TOTALLY unacceptable... although I
- keep hearing "real soon now"---"real soon" is getting pushed farther back.
-
- I thought about switching in April... but decided to wait for the CSD in
- "June"--and the maker of my video card (S3 chipset) said that their driver
- should be ready by then. Lucky for me, I didn't upgrade in June--the video
- maker (and IBM) postponed until August. In August, the video maker said
- September... and I asked "what's wrong?"
-
- The answer is the reason why I've discontinued thoughts of upgrading (until
- something changes). It turns out that IBM was slow in supplying specifications
- for the video drivers: most video card makers don't have a clue on how
- to writean OS/2 2.0 driver!
-
- This shows remarkably bad planning on the part of IBM. And although I am
- sure the company will eventually rectify this, it does nothing for my
- confidence in IBM.
-
- OS/2 is great if your current hardware supports it satisfactorially. Otherwise,
- I'm ready to wait as long as IBM is.
-
- Just my opinions.
-
- Joe.
