  12. Well this week I had my first bout with some OS/2 weirdness (after 4 months
  13. of using it).  A couple of days ago it froze on me.  I waited to see if it
  14. was really off doing something, and it apparently wasn't.  I rebooted, and
  15. to my surprise, my HPFS was neither corrupted nor rebuilt.  I used the
  16. system for about 1/2 hour and the same thing happened.  Same problem, same
  17. result.  After another clean reboot, I ran the system for about 24 hours
  18. (it generally runs 24 hours/day).

  20. I noticed yesterday eve that one of my folders had a black icon (a first
  21. for me).  I installed the black icon fix a while back, so I was surprised
  22. to see it.  The icon stayed black.  I was screwing around with the system
  23. after that, and it locked up again.  I rebooted (cleanly again?!?!?!) and
  24. everything seems fine about 15 hours later.  The icon isn't black, and
  25. the system is humming.

  27. This is pretty strange, but I think whatever it was has cleared itself
  28. up, maybe it was gas.  Gee, maybe I'll just uninstall it, put it back
  29. on the shelf and reload MSDOS and Windows.  Or maybe I'll just sit here
  30. and beat my face in with a brick over and over.  I'll never understand
  31. the logic of "Gee there's a problem, I guess I'll just quit instead of
  32. trying to figure out what's wrong."  OS/2 is the best thing for the
  33. desktop since color.

  37. A couple of questions for the rumor mill:

  39. 1)  Has anyone heard of an addition of scalable fonts for PM?  Kind of like
  40.     DV/X sports?  Is this in the works?
  41.  
  42. 2)  Has anyone heard any further details about the late Aug/early Sept
  43.     OS/2 2.0 Win/3.1 support release?
  44.  
  45. 3)  Has anyone heard of a Motif/Open Look/X version of PM?
  46.  
  47. 4)  How does the IBM X extension work, does it take over for PM, or convert
  48.     the X calls to PM calls?
