- Lately I have reformatted my 660 Mbyte ESDI disk to include a 511 Mbyte
- secondary partition. There were problems with the partition like lost files
- until the HPFS and kernel fixes were applied. After some time, The spelling
- checker in WordPerfect was locking its window. Yesterday, when I tried to
- back up the partition up, the system froze while processing one file. That
- file was fine in the old partition. I erased that directory, and begun
- backing up again. The system froze again. After some investigation, it
- became obvious that touching (grep, xcopy) some files freezes the computer.
- I tried disabling caching, shadowing, increasing drive disk waits, with
- no change.
- I am wondering if this is hardware or software problem. By using that
- partition, am I waiting for a time bomb to explode and take all
- my files away?
- The same setup with FAT partitions only never caused me any disk problem.
- My PC is Gataway 486/33 (purchased 2 months ago) with ULTRASTOR 12F
- controller and 660 Mbyte Seagate disk.
