  11. Lately I have reformatted my 660 Mbyte ESDI disk to include a 511 Mbyte
  12. secondary partition. There were problems with the partition like lost files 
  13. until the HPFS and kernel fixes were applied. After some time, The spelling
  14. checker in WordPerfect was locking its window. Yesterday, when I tried to 
  15. back up the partition up, the system froze while processing one file. That 
  16. file was fine in the old partition. I erased that directory, and begun 
  17. backing up again. The system froze again. After some investigation, it
  18. became obvious that touching (grep, xcopy) some files freezes the computer. 
  19. I tried disabling caching, shadowing, increasing drive disk waits, with 
  20. no change.
  21. I am wondering if this is hardware or software problem. By using that 
  22. partition, am I waiting for a time bomb to explode and take all 
  23. my files away?
  24. The same setup with FAT partitions only never caused me any disk problem.
  25. My PC is Gataway 486/33 (purchased 2 months ago) with ULTRASTOR 12F 
  26. controller and 660 Mbyte Seagate disk.
