- AAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!
-
- This machine does NOT work with OS/2--no matter how much Standard
- tells you it will, they are LYING! I bought two (count 'em, 2 (two))
- of them (identical configuration, BTW) from this manufacturer. The
- first had a bad hard drive, the second installed OS/2 fine. It would
- run for two or three minutes, then die with unpredictable Traps--never
- the same trap. Sometimes it would just hang, sometimes the Trap
- message would print partially--or not at all. I went 'round and
- 'round with Tech support. I even swapped the machines and installed
- the good HD in the chassis that had the bad one and I got the same
- response. I installed an 80Mb HD from my previous '386 successively
- in both machines and got the same response. Grr. I literally played
- with the machine for TWO WEEKS, trying everything I knew to fix it
- (interrupt conflicts, memory tests, bios upgrades, different hard
- drives, swapping cards, disabling features--you name it), and I never
- got a better response out of either machine.
-
- Tech support wouldn't return my calls--they would promise replacement
- hardware that wouldn't get shipped, and on and on. Then, when I tried
- to return the machines I had to file a dispute with my credit card
- company because Standard refused to credit my Visa until they had
- received the equipment. That's OK, but I put a UPS trace on the
- equipment and found that Standard had received it 2 days after I had
- shipped it, but nobody knew anything about my return shipment until I
- called the **VICE PRESIDENT** of the company and had him track the
- stuff down. It was twenty days until they credited my card, and I had
- been promised that credits are always issued within 7 days after
- receipt of the merchandise. They even lied to me and said they had
- received the shipment on July 27 when I had proof of receipt in my
- hands from UPS that said they had received it on the 23rd.
-
- All in all--just say NO.
-
- I have had good experience with CompuDyne--you have to be a little
- patient though--they have grown tenfold and are having a few growth
- pains. I have a 486-33 with 16Mb, Tseng 4000 based card and CTX
- monitor (don't know who really makes that, but it sure is clear.)
- It's FAST.
-
- I have no connection with either company other than as a dis-satisfied
- and satisfied customer, respectively.
