  20. Cartridges streamers do not allow tape data to be partially
  21. overwritten. There are exactly two valid places where write operations
  22. are allowed: at the beginning of the tape and behind all written data.

  24. It is likewise impossible to append to an archive, since TAR writes his
  25. own EOF record(s) [at least 512 bytes of zeroes] which cannot be
  26. overwritten later. Some streamers allow overwriting the trailing tape
  27. filemark, but this is intended for old versions of TAR which don't use
  28. an EOF record.
