  31. No, Phil.  Just yesterday IBM air expressed a private patch to me to
  32. see if it would fix some minor video problems I had reported (after at
  33. least three phone calls from the developer responsible for that
  34. section of OS/2 code, who went through everything step-by-step).  The
  35. diskette was hand labelled and included the IBMer's direct telephone
  36. number.

  38. The hardware they were trying to get OS/2 2.0 to work better with?  A
  39. 512K Trident 8900C SuperVGA adapter.

  41. Incidently, the problem has been fixed and will be in the first CSD so
  42. that everyone else will benefit.

  44. The only other major company I've had such positive experiences with
  45. was WordPerfect Corp.  Years ago I was one of the first using their
  46. Apple //e version of WordPerfect.  It had a problem with my Stacker
  47. hard drive.  On their dime I talked through the problem, and a couple
  48. days later a new set of diskettes arrived on my doorstep.  They had
  49. recompiled WordPerfect for my benefit -- the file dates were a day or
  50. two earlier -- and whatever change they made did indeed fix the
  51. problem.

  53. Now, IBM UK may have dropped the ball on this one, but, generally, IBM
  54. USA has been extremely helpful, at least in my experience.

  56. (I do still have some criticisms on IBM's support, notably that
  57. sometimes it is a bit too difficult to work through the front line
  58. bureaucracy.)
