  24. Any chance the Windows setup parameters are out of step with the hardware?
  25. For example, how much memory does the printer have, and does the Windows
  26. setup dialog for the printer reflect that memory size?  (And is it the same
  27. amount of memory you had when the printer was working?)

  29. Does the printer have font cartridges installed, and are they reflected in
  30. the dialog?  Are soft fonts available *and known to the printer driver*?

  32. (Note that you install PCL soft fonts to a specific printer.  Deleting the
  33. printer from Windows does not erase the font files from your disk, but
  34. merely reinstalling the printers from the Control Panel -> Printers
  35. dialog does not re-intstall the fonts to the printer because the list
  36. of fonts no longer exists.  This is exactly the opposite of the way
  37. TrueType works; its font selection is global across all printers.)

  39. Are you using TrueType or PCL fonts?  Remember that if you installed Word
  40. for Windows V2 *before* you installed Windows 3.1 you've got PCL fonts for
  41. the equation editor.  To get the TrueType fonts for Fences and MT Extra 
  42. you need to re-install the Equation Editor.

  44. (If you do re-install the equation editor, don't for get to fix the problem
  45. with font nomenclature by using the Control Panel -> FONTS dialog to:

  47.   - Delete all FENCES and MT EXTRA font files *without* deleting the
  48.     files from disk, and
  49.   - Add back in FENCES (TrueType) and MT Extra (TrueType) from the
  50.     c:\windows\system directory.)
