- You pretty much answered your own question....

- The Paradise card you have obvious can support 640x480x256, but you don't
- have a lot of memory. DOS doesn't need a lot of memory because the
- screen is not bitmapped...sure, you popped up a CSHOW image (which is
- bitmapped) but CSHOW doesn't do anything other than show an image.
- Under Windows, the screen is a constant bitmap, and everything you
- do (like moving the mouse) requires the movement of blocks of video
- memory. You don't have a lot of memory on your card, so you can't hold
- an entire screen in memory, so you see the card swapping with system RAM
- and it shows up as screen noise. (You should also notice that Windows
- is running pretty friggin' slow un 256 mode.)

- A couple of things...the drivers in Windows are a hell of a lot better than
- CSHOW can drive the video. Supposedly the same rez in CSHOW look pathetic
- compared to displaying the same image at the same rez in Windows.
